Consultations take about twenty minutes and we advise patients to arrive fifteen minutes earlier to fill out a questionnaire.

After filling out the questionnaire and a having a brief discussion with the specialist, you will simply be asked to place your non-dominant arm into the Dexacare® wrist densitometer. If you have broken your non dominant arm in the past three years, you will be asked to place the other wrist in the machine.

The scan itself takes a few minutes where data is fed into a computer for analysis. No preparation is required and you will not be asked to undress. The scanner does use x-rays but the dosage is very small, about 1/400th of a chest x-ray or one seventh of your daily dose from back ground radiation.

You will then be given a print out of your results, which are fully analysed and discussed with you. Advice on nutrition, diet, exercise and current drug options is included in a comprehensive info pack which is all part of the service. A copy of your report will also be sent to your GP at your discretion. Appointments are available on Saturdays and there is a one-off charge of £45.00.
